Powershell # Remote Desktop Profiles do not clear temp files out. I'll keep the logon script in place to prevent a build up of them, as it doesn't seem to be causing any issues to remove the excess. So subsequent files build up at each and every logon. So I believe the first regtrans-ms & TM.blf files fail to correctly write back to the registry due to these apps that never run. "Failed with 0x490 modifying AppModel Runtime status for package _3.1066_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy". These entries are commonly logged in the event logs: Event souce - AppModel-Runtime We have an app locker GPO in place (setup by a 3rd party along with the RDS farm) to prevent 'metro' apps running on the servers. Which i have come across multiple times in event viewer when troubleshooting other issues. Within the log files were entries for things such as "_3.1066_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy" & "_cw5n1h2txyewy". Particularly from the blf or regtrans-ms files but from the additional The files areĮncrypted but you can pick bits out, strings that do make sense. I've mounted the test UPD to try and view the contents. These are in use by System and can't be deleted when the account is logged in. 2 from the first time the account logged onto the server. Once logged in it had removed historical files with those extensions but left the earliest modified. I added a few lines into a logon script to clear out any. Which if I can safely delete them, that's fine.īut that got me onto why are there in the first place. Thanks for the link - it does confirm that they are temporary registry files containing settings to merge into the registry. There doesn't seem to be much out on the net about it - or my Google-fu is letting me down.So any advice or pointers appreciated. regtrans-ms & associated TM.blf files & can they be cleaned up? I've addressed the others but my question is: Which totals nearly 2.5GB of profile bloat in just 18 months. Then doing more digging found that within AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ there are multiple '.regtrans-ms' & 'TM.blf' files with modified date going back to the go live date of the new RDS farm.įor some these are nearly 400MB. So I've tested a PS logon script which is now nicely clearing out these files and will keep on top of it. TMP files in "AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Word" This seemed excessive so I've been doing some digging.įirst job was to clear out the 'OutlookSecureTempFolder' (AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Outlook) which (even with Outlook 365 January build) is hanging on to a temporary file of each email attachment that is opened. some accounts are getting up towards 7-8GB after only 18 months of this RDS farm going live.

We have a hard limit of 10GB which seems fairly standard. I'm having to look at the unexpected growth of our UPD.
